Bruce Pardy – The Effect of Free Speech Laws on Universities

“The university is broken. It’s petty. It’s corrupt, intellectually corrupt. It’s a breeding ground now for authoritarians.”

So begins Professor Bruce Pardy’s presentation to the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship’s 2019 AGM.

His talk on the attempts by the Ontario government, led by Doug Ford, to curtail abuses of academic free speech focuses on the recent actions by some universities against some conservative speakers restricting their access to campus after protests by radical and sometimes violent Leftists.

Prof. Pardy’s thesis is that while the Conservative government’s attempt to prevent such biased restrictions is welcome it will not succeed due to the current state of the law in Ontario in the context of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

“If you want to change the law or influence you gotta change the culture.”

University of Chicago history professor, Rachel Fulton Brown has been criticized and even harassed for a blog post she published on June 5, 2015 titled “Three Cheers for White Men.” (https://tinyurl.com/yyu6a4sq)

Her post explained that “white men,” the racist and inflammatory term used by Leftists to denote — in a derogatory way — Western culture, were responsible for such things as chivalry, women’s rights, and free speech.

We spoke with Professor Brown at a meeting of the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship at Western University in London, Ontario on May 4th, 2019.

“Allyship (n): An active and consistent practice of unlearning and reevaluating beliefs and actions in order to work in solidarity with a marginalized individual or group.” That’s a ‘definition’ found on Teen Vogue on line, in an August 27 2018 article entitled “How To Use Gender Neutral Words” (written by Danielle Corcione).

Under a contrived pretense of using such words to “make life better for non-binary peers,” the real goal is far more sinister. As Danielle and Robert point out, the goal is to ‘progressively disintegrate’ language itself, and in the process, impose the non-value of egalitarianism on others.

Child abuse takes many forms, and one of those forms is the deconstruction of language in a way that destroys the ability of children to think critically. The goal itself must be judged as pure evil, since the ‘definitions’ being invented do not correspond to reality.

Avoiding reality is a hallmark of Leftist non-thinking, while imposing one’s own unreality upon others is the fundamental ‘tool’ (which is how the Left evasively describes the use of force) employed by all evil efforts and causes. Continue reading »

David Haskell on Leftist protestors and freedom of speech

We interview Professor David Haskell of Wilfrid Laurier University about his quitting a University task force created to make recommendations regarding freedom of speech on campus to the Administrators of Laurier University.

This interview followed his presentation, along with Lindsay Shepherd, to the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship’s 2018 AGM at Western University. This presentation can be found on our Youtube channel.

With a bit of humour and a lot of grace she details the deplorable harassment she received at the hands of those who should have been her objective mentors. The personal consequences she has had to endure for standing up to her tormentors have been substantial.

In this Just Right Media exclusive video Lindsay Shepherd is interviewed by Professor David Haskell on the finer particulars of her predicament at Wilfred Laurier University. The discussion took place at the 2018 AGM of the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship and is followed by a question and answer period.

Gad Saad – “A Tsunami of Maladies Afflicting the Soul of Our Universities”

Once again Just Right was privileged to be able to record the presentations at the Annual General Meeting of the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship (SAFS).

Gad Saad, Professor of Marketing and Conordia University Research Chair in Evolutionary Behavioural Science and Darwinian Consumption and host of The Saad Truth on Youtube was the keynote speaker at this year’s AGM.

His presentation introduces a number of novel concepts adding to our understanding of the threats posed to academic freedom and freedom of speech. These concepts include: idea pathogens, collective Munchausen by proxy, and nomological networks of cumulative experience.

“Idea pathogens are pathogens of the human mind, pathogens of the human spirit that regrettably could potentially be as dangerous as biological pathogens.

“Radical feminism, post-modernism, social constructivism, cultural and moral relativism, political correctness, echo chambers void of intellectual diversity, the culture of perpetual offensive victimhood, identity politics coupled with progressive self flagellation. Each of these are really really dangerous idea pathogens.”

Dr. Saad’s presentation was followed by a lively discussion and question period with the members of SAFS.
