Doug Ford

Driven a Ford lately? Most Fords are capable of being driven in any direction, but the Ford being driven by the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party (PC) is only capable of steering Left.

Doug Ford is a likable character to many on the right, but the party driving him has a clear and consistent history of making Left turns only. The very crisis that conservatives blame on Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne’s ruling Liberal Party was in fact created and continues to be fueled by Ontario’s PC party. Under the PC banner, Doug Ford can now be counted upon to continue this Progressive tradition.

For example, within the span of but a single day following his election as PC leader, on the issue of the upcoming legalization of cannabis in Ontario, Ford switched from saying ‘Let markets dictate’ to ‘Let’s dictate the market.’

Making it clear that he himself does not support the legalization of cannabis, Ford later attempted to reconcile all of his contradictory statements with his pledge to “Start off in our controlled market, eventually I believe in the free market.”

The vast majority of Ontarians calling themselves ‘conservatives’ have no knowledge whatever of just how far to the Left the ‘right-wing’ party they blindly support is. Doug Ford appears to be among them. Nor do they know that it is the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario that has been the architect of almost every major policy these ‘conservatives’ say they oppose.

Their blind and reckless support of the PCs has driven the province of Ontario into a crisis. The crisis exists not only because of the immediate negative effects of supporting a party driving in the Left direction, but because of a persistent and false belief that this vehicle is even capable of turning Right. It just ain’t so, and that’s the inconvenient truth behind Ontario’s Progressive Conservative Party.

Today’s discussion panel with Bob Metz, Robert Vaughan, Mary Lou Ambrogio, and Paul McKeever includes two former PC activist/supporters and provides a litany of evidence about the real history and direction of the PC party for those who may be in doubt.

Among the inconvenient truths:

  • The Progressive Conservatives introduced Rent Controls (1975 under Bill Davis).
  • The Progressive Conservatives created the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO), a state monopoly that sells alcohol at inflated and artificially high prices and prohibits free market sales.
  • The Progressive Conservatives created ‘The Beer Store’ a now foreign-owned-by-private-interests monopoly on beer sales in the province (1927 under Howard Ferguson).
  • The Progressive Conservatives established the Ontario Human Rights Commission, founded on the divisive and racist principle of identity politics and group rights (1961 under Leslie Frost).
  • The Progressive Conservatives created Universal-Single Payer Health Care (introduced federally in 1957 under the Liberals and supported by PC Premier Leslie Frost, then as OHIP in the 1960s under PC leaders John Robarts and Bill Davis) and which has caused today’s chronic ‘under-funding’ of health care.
  • The Progressive Conservatives abolished private health care insurance options in conjunction with establishing a single-payer system.
  • The Progressive Conservatives introduced Ontario’s provincial income tax as a means of paying for the state health care monopoly.
  • The Conservatives established Ontario’s hydro monopoly (under Sir James Whitney) which has led to the most unaffordable and costly electricity prices ever experienced by Ontarians (“power at cost”).
  • The Progressive Conservatives established TVOntario (1970 under John Robarts), a state-controlled and taxpayer funded television network that today opposes anything on the Right, and which will not allow Freedom Party (an officially registered political party in the province) to appear because of FP’s opposition to ‘climate fighting’ politics.
  • The myth that the Progressive Conservative Party is ‘fiscally conservative.’ Under the PC leadership of Mike Harris (considered a ‘slash and burn’ right winger) Ontario’s debt grew from $90.7 billion to $132 billion, with no PC government ever having reduced spending or debt in the past.
  • The Progressive Conservatives interpretation of ‘fiscal responsibility’ means state control of the economy, not ‘free markets.’
  • The current Progressive Conservative support (and now support of Doug Ford) of the soon to be established government monopoly on cannabis sales.
  • The PC litany of socialist and fascist policies is endless, and these few examples are but the tip of a very large political iceberg of Leftist ideologies faithfully supported by this ‘progressive’ institution.

For those unable or unwilling to comprehend that being anti-PC does not mean being pro-Liberal, let us make it clear that our panelists support neither of these two parties of the Left. They support another political option entirely. It’s called the Freedom Party of Ontario, and it’s the only political party that is Just Right for Ontario.
