  1. re: abortion. Two questions that came to me while listening today.

    1. What is your take on the new report that came out last week saying certain immigrant groups are using sex-selective abortion?

    2. Should rape victims pay for their abortions? Should it be the perpetrator, if found and convicted? Should the state if the perpetrator does not not have the means or is not found? What would be the right solution?

    • Hello, Matthew,

Good questions. To the first question I would say that once a person accepts that abortion is the sole right of the woman to decide then we cannot pick and choose her reasons for aborting her pregnancy.

To the second, Bob and I are opposed to the state involvement in health care, period. But you bring up a good point by questioning whether a rapist should pay for it. I would say yes. A criminal must make restitution for his crime whenever possible. If the woman cannot afford an abortion or if the perpetrator cannot then no, the state should not pay for the abortion. For the same reason that if a criminal steals your car and it cannot be found and you can’t afford another one then the state should not pay for it.
