It is utterly hypocritical for Ontario Premier Doug Ford to suggest that “There is no room for political ideology in our fight against COVID-19″ when his entire approach to the fraud has been ideological from the beginning.

That was just a small part of Ford’s response to MPP Roman Baber (York Centre), whose January 15 letter to Ford dared to conclude: “The Lockdowns aren’t working. They are killing lives instead of saving lives. I plead with you to accept this reality and end the Lockdown.”

Unfortunately, accepting reality has never been a part of Ford’s lockdown ideology. In an irrational response to Baber’s well-reasoned case and request to end the lockdown, Ford expelled him from his caucus.

“Effective immediately, Mr. Baber will no longer be sitting as a member of the PC Caucus and will not be permitted to seek re-election as a PC member,” announced Ford.

“Mr. Baber’s comments are irresponsible. By spreading misinformation he is undermining the tireless efforts of our frontline health care workers at this critical time, and he is putting people at risk. I continue to urge all Ontarians to stay home to stop the spread of COVID-19. We have bent the curve before and, working together, we will do it again.”

And with that, Ford once again has portrayed himself as Ontario’s premier COVID case.

After having falsely accused Baber of “spreading misinformation” and of irresponsibility, Ford received a January 18 letter written by Dr. Richard Schabas, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health from 1987-1997.

In that letter, Schabas confirmed that the “five key points” in Baber’s original letter were accurate and concluded: “Mr Baber deserves great credit for his courage in trying to open the discussion.”

It’s understandable that open discussions about COVID-19 are a natural threat to those who have indefensible narratives to promote. This explains both Ford’s reaction and the broader continual attempts to censor or smear any narrative that approaches the truth.

Roman Baber now joins Randy Hillier and Belinda Karaholios in sharing the genuine honor of having been expelled from Ford’s caucus for questioning his lockdown ideology.

Meanwhile, Ford’s irresponsible fear-mongering and spreading of misinformation continues as a matter of government policy. It appears there will never come a day when Doug Ford or Ontario’s Progressive Conservative Party ever do anything even close to being Just Right.
